My Mercurial Muse

After a several-month-long absence my mercurial muse chose last night to make an unexpected and uninvited appearance while I slept. She awakened me hours before I’d planned to rise for the day and kept teasing me with story ideas until I finally gave up any further thoughts of sleep and and got up to capture them before they forever disappeared. She is such an irresistible and persistent tease!

So far, here are the ideas that drove me from my warm and comfortable bed:

A huge ocean luxury liner (possibly named Neptune’s Glory or something similar) with thousands of souls aboard vanishes in the middle of its cruise. No distress calls were sent. A couple of ships thought they may have seen a bright flash of light at about the cruise liner’s last known location, but the the flash ended so quickly they weren’t even certain they’d seen it.

An intense international rescue effort finds no trace of the vessel, its passengers, or its crew, and the extended search is eventually called off.

Three days later, a young woman is rescued by a fishing boat. She’s suffering from severe exposure and dehydration, has a large bump on the head, and bruises on her body. She has no idea who she is or how she got into the water…

That’s all I have for now.

With Love,

Thank you, Beth. I sure hope so. Sometimes early ideas lead to something fascinating, and sometimes merely to dead ends. Time will tell, but I’m rooting for fascinating. ;-D!
